The January 2024 quarterly TRUE addenda is now available. To view the changes, visit the addenda table and search for 01/01/2024.

This release includes an update to the text of three different credits within the TRUE rating system to improve the accessibility and flexibility of these credits. These updates will all be made to the innovation section of the rating system.

Innovation credits 1, 2 and 3 will be replaced with three "open innovation credits" that may be used in one of three ways:

  1. Project teams may develop and implement an innovative zero-waste strategy not addressed in the existing TRUE rating system.
  2. Project teams may select and implement an innovative zero-waste strategy that is published in the TRUE Innovation Catalog. All strategies provided in this catalog are examples of actions that existing project teams were awarded credit for previously, generalized for broader project team use.
  3. Any of TRUE’s existing pilot credits (including pilot credit 1 and pilot credit 2) may be used to fulfill one of the innovation credits. (Please note that pilot credits may be used in place of any existing credit in the TRUE rating system; this update does not restrict the use of pilot credits to the innovation section.)

Why is this change being made?

This modification has been made to increase the flexibility of the rating system and increase project teams' ability to achieve the innovation credits. Expanding the way project teams can achieve innovation credits while also providing examples of past accepted innovation actions will help support these aims.

What are addenda?

Addenda are official updates that incorporate changes and improvements to the TRUE rating system and other published guidance documents to help clarify, correct, interpret or provide alternative language. Addenda should be referred to in conjunction with the TRUE rating system and other published guidance documents.

With future versions of the rating system, addenda will be incorporated into that update. Addenda are designed to be a midway step to an official version update, to address needed changes to the rating system.
